A brand new campaign has been launched by Help Musicians to raise awareness of the irreversible damage that can be caused to musicians’ hearing by simply being in noisy environments.

Musicians’ Hearing Services works alongside Help Musicians on our Musicians’ Hearing Health Scheme and are proud to support them on their latest campaign “It’s a noisy job in a noisy world”.

The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the dangers posed by noisy environments, even those that you might not think carry a risk. Beyond the live performance and rehearsal settings there are many more risk factors for developing irreversible noise-induced hearing loss, from your usual commute to simply being in a crowded place.

Noise-induced hearing loss is 100% irreversible, but 100% preventable. To help put proactive measures into place, Help Musicians have outlined these 6 different ways to protect your hearing.

“It’s not just the volume levels but the duration, and the duration is cumulative. It’s not like at midnight everything resets for the next day. Musicians have to take into account not just their musical exposure but what happens over the week. Day-to-day sounds, like being on a tube for example, can have an effect on a musician’s exposure.”
